Downhill Frenzy - ...Relax, It's Just a Demo (2001)
When I started high school in 2001, there was a short list of bands known to be made up of members of our school, Central High in Philadelphia. The guy I knew from this band (I'm pretty sure) was named Adam and I know he was one of the horn players. I'm sure he's the one who gave me this demo. I can't be certain if I ever saw them play but I know that around the time of this release they had started playing a couple of high-profile ska shows. The one that comes to mind is King Django. I do love this 6-song demo though. It clearly sounds 80% like Less Than Jake but it's got really great energy and the band is pretty tight. I always wanted to see if they released anything else and how I could get it. If anybody knows anything about this band, please tell me in the comments. The copy I have became pretty damaged, and I had to repair the audio and then I did a little bit of mastering and created an album cover. I think it sounds pretty good. Enjoy.

2. I think the second song is called "All the Time" as that song appeared on a ska compilation 20 years ago and is the only other remaining evidence I can find that this band existed.
3. I assume the third song is either called "Sean Agnew" or "Sean Agnew Lost All His Fucking Money" and as I'm writing this post I am recalling a conversation I had with Adam about the lyrics. For those of you who had anything to do with the Philly rock/punk/metal/alternative/underground scene in the past 25 years, you'll likely know Sean Agnew as the founder of R5 Productions and the person who booked most of your favorite bands to play legendary shows at places like The First Unitarian Church, Union Transfer and Johnny Brendas. The story he told me about the song is that, some time around the millenium, Sean Agnew put up his own money to book a show with (I think) The Get Up Kids and then maybe there were problems with the promotion and date of the show and it ended up being a complete bust. I don't know how true that is but I always like telling that story. I've heard Sean Agnew referred to as a jerk but I know that during quarantine, he continued paying employees even though there was no work to be done with music, bars and clubs at the time. And for that, he has my undying respect.
