So, in the Summer of 2007, I started an internship at a recording studio in Philadelphia. The studio was near my friend John's house so I went to see him one day and then we ended up going down to South Street and found his friend Mark. Somehow, that day, we ended up at my mom's house jamming on some melodic death metal and we decided we should be a band. I was initially partial to the name Penelope Crucifixion but, ultimately, we settled on the equally brutal and hilarious Ogre Christ. While we didn't have an official vocalist for a few months, John and Mark brought in their friend Pete to play guitar and we started writing songs right away. Most of the Low Budgets rare material is available right now for free on their Bandcamp page. But the "Tape Over Hanson EP" I guess wasn't considered good enough of a recording to re-release. It is just as it sounds: the band recorded a 4-song demo on top of a Hanson tape. There's not much to say about this one. If you're from the tri-state area and you were in the punk rock scene when I was, then you know the Low Budgets are like the greatest band of all time. When I was 19, I applied for an internship at a combination studio and live space unfortunately called 'Philafunk Live' for this guy Todd and one other guy, both professional horn players I think. It was pretty cool. For a few months I got to help wire up a live room and a giant mixing console. We also had gotten a reputation with the famous Joe Hardcore who booked HxCx shows around Philly every weekend, mostly for R5 Productions. Working these matinees, I got to meet and work with lots of cool bands like Shai Hulud, Have Heart and, eventually, None More Black. The set-up in the venue was crazy because the live room was circular and pretty large but the recording booth was upstairs 20 feet above the heads of the bands and with the window facing away from the stage. We asked all the bands that came in if we could record them and they basically always said 'yes'.
